38MM UNIVERSAL EXTERNAL 2-BOLT WASTEGATE An external wastegate regulates the maximum boost pressure within a turbocharged system to match the power required for a given level of boost. It does so by bypassing a portion of exhaust flow into the exhaust system, thus reducing the power driving the turbine. The advantage of an external wastegate is that the bypassed exhaust is diverted further downstream of the turbine, which tends to improve the turbine's performance. Moreover, it allows a smaller A/R turbine housing, reducing the spool time needed by the turbo to produce boost.
