A valve cap is important on a tire valve because if one is not fitted, dirt and water can enter the outside of the valve, potentially jamming it or contaminating the sealing surfaces and causing a leak. Rock salt and other chemical de-icers used in the winter are especially damaging for unprotected TPMS valves and sensors. Muzzys caps have a synthetic rubber washer seal inside to help make a hermetic seal (airtight seal). Such a rubber-washer-sealing-type cap also helps prevent air from escaping from a slightly leaking valve. In addition, the rubber washer prevents the cap from loosening and falling off due to vibrations and hence being lost, by acting as a cushion between the cap and the valve stem and in this way damping the vibrations. Muzzys caps are made of high quality corrosion resistant and treated materials. If you live in the "Salt Belt", as an extra precaution, we highly recommend using some type of lubricant, oil, grease, petroleum jelly, or anti-seize (WD-40, Permatex, PB Blaster, 3-IN-ONE Oil, Liquid Wrench, Vaseline, Lithium, Tri-Flow, etc.) on the valve stem or cap threads prior to installing your caps to ensure easy removal in case the caps are left on for long periods of time. Install your new chrome caps hand tight. Without the protection from a valve cap your valve can corrode or it can get clogged from outside debris. This can lead to unnecessary hassle and can lead to your valve getting stuck open next time you top off your tires.
