This is an original, genuine AW solution to the common problem with rear wheel drive Volvo models 240 740 940 with automatic transmission. In addition to the plate, this kit includes 2 bolts and the required, properly sized gasket. The engine revs high, and the transmission does not come out of Overdrive. The condition for this problem is caused by the overdrive solenoid, that has gotten contaminated with the metal shavings from automatic transmission fluid that is passed through the solenoid. When the overdrive is not activated the metal shavings build up around the magnet inside the solenoid, and the solenoid becomes stuck in the closed position. There is no way to clean out the solenoid - it must be replaced with the new one. Now, here is the dilemma: The NEW solenoid will get contaminated within 100 miles of driving by the metal particles that are still in the transmission. The transmission will stop functioning - and the problem will return. We have a permanent solution: Replace the overdrive solenoid with the blocking plate as pictured. The blocking plate that we offer is properly designed for the particular application and ready for installation. Just remove 2 bolts that are holding the existing solenoid in place and install solenoid backing plate in its place.
