Magura brakes have been keeping mountain bikers in control since the earliest days of the sport, but the MT7 Next hydraulic disc brake proves that this old German dog has learned a couple of new tricks. By now, you've probably seen the MT-series brakes, which are prized for their ultralight Carbotecture SL brake levers, but the MT7 adds a crazy-powerful four-piston caliper to the equation, which means that enduro racers and gravity fiends can now enjoy unreal stopping power without a weight penalty.As previously mentioned, the MT7 starts with the proven Carbotecture SL brake body, which uses a composite reservoir body to shave precious grams over even the lightest alloy assemblies. An ergonomic forged aluminum lever keeps you in control at a feathery weight. It employs tool-free adjusters for lever throw and bite point, which takes the guesswork out of getting a perfect brake setup. Naturally, like the rest of the brake, it's guaranteed for a full five years against seal issues, which means that next time you pull on the lever, you can do so with full confidence.The real story here, however, is the forged alloy four-piston caliper. The design borrows heavily from Magura's legendary motocross brakes, and the result is plenty of power to satisfy a downhill racer, at a weight that the rest of us will be happy with. Each of the four pistons gets its own brake pad, and they're top-loading, which makes for super-fast pad swaps when the time comes. It runs on Magura Royal Blood mineral oil -- a proprietary blend that's highly resistant to overheating, as well as being more user-friendly than the DOT fluids found in most other brakes. The Magura MT7 Next Hydraulic Disc Brake is available in either Left (front) or Right (rear), and in the color Black/yellow. Brake rotors and adapters are sold separately.
