The optional BMW Engine Protection Bars for the R1200GS lack the most important thing: protection for the vulnerable cylinder valve covers. When a 1200GS goes down most often the first point of contact with the ground is the cylinder valve cover. The valve cover is usually badly damaged or destroyed because the BMW engine bars really only provide protection from hits from the front, not from the side. Once damaged, oils leaks occur and the motorcycle is non-operational.
