Nobody wants to think about the possibility of a catastrophic neck injury, but thankfully, the good folks at Leatt have taken a hard look at this most undesirable of unintended consequences. And while the DBX series has long been the benchmark in comfortable, functional neck protection, Leatt's latest creation, the DBX 5. 5 offers up more adjustability than ever before, which means even more riders can achieve a perfect fit in the quest for safety. The point of the DBX brace is to limit the range of motion in your neck, reducing over-extension injuries. To that end, a fiberglass-reinforced polyamide chassis radiates out from around the neck, blocking further motion once the helmet has bottomed out. But as you are probably aware, while fighting hyperextension is essential, it's perhaps equally important that the brace doesn't inhibit your required range of motion. After all, if the brace reduced your ability to look down the trail, it could be just as dangerous as not wearing it in the first place. But fine-tuning is precisely what makes the DBX 5. 5 even more advanced than its predecessors, which means you get the protective qualities of the brace, without sacrificing freedom of motion. As with previous generations of the DBX, the 5. 5 has an adjustable opening to help it accommodate a large range of body types. Also carrying over are the shoulder pads, which allow you to raise or lower the brace to accommodate for different neck lengths. Coming from the Pro series is the adjustable aft wing, which is particularly important for riders whose style is based around a flattened back, as opposed to a more upright posture. And while the rear thoracic brace is featured on all DBX braces, the 5. 5 utilizes a brand new split brace, which is adjustable to one of four angle settings.
