100% New Aftermarket Alternator Fits Ford EXCURSION 7.3L(445) V8 (Diesel) 2002-2003 Ford F-SERIES PICKUPS 7.3L(445) V8 (Diesel) 2002-2003 Ford MEDIUM & HEAVY-DUTY TRUCKS F450 Super-Duty Ford 7.3L(446) V8 Dsl 2002-2003 Ford MEDIUM & HEAVY-DUTY TRUCKS F550 Super-Duty Ford 7.3L(446) V8 Dsl 2002-2003 --- This is a Ford 6G Alternator Which Looks Just Like the 7796 Used on Earlier Trucks, Except the 8316 Has a Rectifier With Avalanche Diodes, While the 7796 Does Not. The Change Was Made in the Rectifier So That Other Electronic Devices Would Not Need Load Dump Protection, as This is Accomplished By the Avalanche Diodes. The 8316 Can Be Used in Place of the 7796, But the 7796 Should Not Be Used in Place of the 8316. It Was Originally Reported That This Unit Also Used a Regulator With a "Soft-Start" Feature Not Found in the Earlier Regulator. This is Not True. The Only Change in the Regulator Was Color - From Grey / Grey in the 7796 to Grey / Green in the 8316. Both Regulators Have the Same Function. The Color Change Was Made Simply to Track Vendors of the Components in the Regulator. We Have Issued Part Number 8479 For a Unit That Looks Just Like the 8316, Also, as it Turns Out, Using This Same Grey / Green Regulator, But We Are Told This Unit Has Reverted Back to a Rectifier That Does Not Use Avalanche Diodes. The 8479 May Actually Be, in a Fashion, a Late 7796. Not Enough is Known Yet to Make This Statement for Sure. The 8306 is Basically the Same Unit, Except Using a Different Pulley, a Battery Extension / Insulator, and Also Using a Rectifier That Does Not Have Avalanche Diodes
