Solid "mechanical" flat tappet lifters are designed for higher RPM street and race motors where an adjustable valvetrain, a mechanical lifter cam and other appropriate components are being used. Mechanical lifters do not "pump up" like hydraulic lifters and are designed for operating speeds up to 8000 RPM. Valve lash should be checked regularly. Not compatible with hydraulic style camshafts.
