Thule XD-16 16 mm high quality SUV/truck snow chains are handmade in Italy and are designed for fast installation and removal, as well as excellent traction on snow, ice and slush. They are constructed of a hardened manganese nickel steel alloy (MnNi) for greater durability and reliability and utilize a diamond pattern chain with cross chains. Installation does not require the moving wheels and features fast manual chain adjustment via a stretchable tightening chain and coil springs. Additional features include: 16 mm of inside and on-the-tread clearance, a reversible chain surface for extended product life, wheel and rim protection and a hard-shell case, gloves and kneeling pad.

Smooth Ride and Fast Manual Tensioning for SUVs and Trucks

Poorly fitted snow chains or those with overly prominent chain profiles can often slap against the inside of even large vehicles like SUVs and trucks, compromising your ride. The alternative drivers sometimes are forced to accept in these cases are snow chains with a smaller clearance area, but chains with too subtle a profile are ineffective in supplying the traction needed on snow and ice, especially for vehicles that are used both on-road and off-road. Thule addresses this problem with its XD-16 16 mm snow chain product line for SUVs and trucks.

Thule XD-16 16 mm snow chains are specifically designed for SUVs and trucks and are handmade in Italy by Thule Group company and longtime leader in snow chain manufacturing, König. They are constructed out of durable hardened manganese nickel steel alloy (MnNi) which ensures a long life of reliable use on the road, while the D-shaped links that make up its chain segments provide exceptional traction and more bite on snow and ice. The D-shaped links of Thule XD-16 snow chains are arranged in a symmetrical diamond pattern with cross chains. These patterns lay over tire treads allowing for multiple, but varied chain contacts with snow and ice as tires turn. Individual diamond patterns are connected along the tread by link segments and also to the external side chain and internal cable. Together these features allow Thule XD-16 16 mm SUV/truck snow chains to maintain a superior level of traction both on standard roads and off-road without impacting adjacent areas along the vehicle body.

Quick Installation Without Moving the Vehicle

Unlike traditionally mounted snow chains, Thule XD-16 16 mm SUV/truck snow chains are designed to be installed and removed without the need to move your vehicle. This quick and easy process is aided by a simple color-coded connection system. Pattern chain segments are bordered on one edge by a flexible blue cable while on the opposite edge they are connected by a side chain with easily identified red components and an open section at its middle. To install slide the chains -- blue cable pointing towards the car -- along the inner side of the tire. Once the open section of the pattern chain is centered around the tire slide it towards you and around the tire. Grasp both ends of the blue cable and connect them at the top inner edge of the tire. Join the two extreme ends of the pattern at the top outer edge of the tire using the red connector and red link of chain that sits opposite it. Close the lower opening in the pattern chain by pulling the red hook connector of the tightening chain through the red ratcheting pulley. The exterior of the tightening chain is beaded with hard plastic and will hold tighter with each pull. Once the sufficient tension is achieved, pull the tightening chain through the two red hooks attached to the side chain to your left and stretch its elastic end to the opposite edge of the side chain and hook it into place. In addition to this manual tensioning the XD-16 snow chain utilizes two integrated steel tension springs that help hold the chain tight against the tire. Drive a short distance before stopping to readjust the tightening chain for optimal tension. Optional nylon bumpers can be attached at touch points to protect alloy wheels and tires and loose links can be clamped down. An added benefit of Thule XD-16 16 mm SUV/truck snow chains is that they can be reversed along the tread of the tire, allowing for an extended product life. Installation accessories included: repair links that can be hammered shut or closed with pliers providing a emergency solution for broken or weak spots in a chain, a pair of nylon gloves to protect hands and a kneeling towel to help keep you dry during chain fitting.

About Thule

Thule was founded in 1942 by the Thulin family, when Eric Thulin, a true lover of the outdoors, put the Thule name on a pike trap he designed and began to sell in Scandinavia. It wasn't long before he added other practical items to the company's portfolio. By the 1960s, the company began to concentrate on car-related products, including its first roof rack. The Thulin family sold Thule to the publicly listed company Eldon in 1979, and it has continued to grow both organically and through acquisitions ever since. The Thule Group is a world leader in providing transport solutions for an active life.
