Slapping Files are used to shrink stretched metal and highlight low spots.
An old-time secret for removing dents and/or smoothing body work on hand fabricated panels. The serrated face works in two ways:
- Shrinks the stretched metal
- Highlights high/low spots that require hammer and dolly work
When used as a slapping hammer, with a dolly, files shrink metal to remove high spots. The files can also be used to remove metal.
