Whenever you rebuild an engine that has failed sending metal shavings throughout the motor, if you re-use the stock oil cooler, upon startup these metal shavings store in the oil-cooler will flow into your brand new motor. It is a good idea to replace this oil cooler in failed motors that threw a bearing or had any sort of rod knock sound or any other failure that caused metal to be in the oil.
