A Hypertech Cool Fan Switch is designed to do more than simply keep your vehicle from overheating, it also helps improve your vehicle's performance by allowing the engine to run at cooler temperatures. In vehicles where a fan switch controls the electric cooling fan, the stock switch is usually set to turn on at about 220 degrees Fahrenheit. This switch plugs in like the OEM version, but it turns on the fan at a lower temperature to keep the engine cooler. The lower engine temperatures can increase power in multiple ways. Cooler air is denser, so cooler intake air temperature can improve the air and fuel mixture to increase horsepower. Cooler temperatures can also help decrease the spontaneous combustion of the unburned air-fuel mixture in the combustion chamber (otherwise known as knocking, pinging, or detonation).
